1 Thessalonians 1:10, “…Jesus, who delivers us from the wrath to come.”
The One who will pour out eschatological wrath (Rev.6:16-17) delivers His people from that wrath (1 Thess. 1:10) precisely by bearing that wrath in their place (Rom.3:25). In this is Love (1 John 4:10).
Just a short thought for today. This picture was conceived as I was reading a book called “Wrath Among The Perfections of God’s Life” by Jeremy Wynne. I heard about the book from a theology class I was listening to online and thought it would fit well with the theme of the new animation (which it did). As I was reading, though, I was reminded again of how crucial the reality of God’s wrath is….not as a “scare tactic” to get people to repent, but because the reality and intensity of His wrath IS the measure of His love, since His love is displayed to us precisely in the bearing of wrath in our place (1 John 4:10). These are all things I’m hoping the next animation will address.
