Psalm 30:5, For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes in the morning.
Psalm 30:11, You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness…
Divine anger, weeping, night, mourning, and sackcloth turn into divine favor, joy, morning, dancing, and gladness. This is what the resurrection of Christ is, and what the resurrection of Christ ensures for all of His own. For any and all who cast themselves on Christ, sorrow and suffering are fleeting moments, but joy and glory will endure for everlasting life…..
And in verse 12 we see the purpose for the raising up recounted in verses 5 and 11, namely: “so that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent”. We are raised with Christ that we might live the life of Christ, and the life of Christ is the joyful worship of YHWH…..singing to the Father, in the Son, by the Spirit—this is the life of the Son, the life of Christ, that is preserved through Sheol, and this is the life that we enter into upon our resurrection—spiritually now, physically then.
And how gloriously fitting that Christ was raised in the morning. I take it for granted that Jesus rose from the dead early on the third day, but how absolutely perfect of God to have done it this way! The Son of God rose with the Sun…..since the first morning, the Sun has been proclaiming the resurrection to us…..again and again and again as the Sun rises from his grave under the horizon to pour light on the world, he has been a testimony of the true Rising….the Rising that makes all mornings possible. And then – with infinite wisdom – God ordains that His Son, the True Light of the world, should rise from His grave in the morning, awesome.
